Outlander season 5 spoilers: Jamie and Claire future twist REVISITED in huge ghost reveal?

Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) has done plenty of time travel over the course of four series’ of Outlander, hearing the sound of magical drums every time she comes near the Standing Stones.

Yet as viewers and book-readers understand 18th Century Highlander Jamie (Sam Heughan) isn’t able to hear the “call” and can’t travel through time.

The Amazon Prime Video show’s season two finale showed this when father-of-two Jamie sent his pregnant wife back through the Stones to raise their daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) in the future in safety.

But many will remember there was one tiny scene in season one’s first instalment which showed a Scottish Highlander in Inverness staring up at Claire’s inn window.

Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) spotted the lurking stranger and immediately worried his wife was cheating on him, but viewers never saw the character turn around.

Now a theory as claimed the scene will be revisited and as the show goes on, fans may even end up seeing Jamie travelling through time and reenacting that scene.

Sharing their thoughts on Reddit, user cigarettepoop said: “In season one episode one Frank sees Jamie staring up at Claire during a thunderstorm…

“I don’t remember this being discussed throughout the rest of the seasons. Is this just a loose end or will it ever come into play for later seasons?”

the_rain_is_ours replied: “The author [Diana Gabaldon] will answer this in the final (tenth) book.

“All she’s said is that it was Jamie’s ghost.”

As fans tried to gauge when this story twist might come into play, there was debate over exactly when creator Ronald D. Moore and the team of writers might choose to reach this moment, in what would surely be a full-circle moment for the characters.

derawin07 claimed: “I mean, not necessarily. The showrunners have said that the one book per season pattern isn’t fixed. And of course, no guarantee they will get a 7th season.”

The comments in question were reported by Entertainment Weekly, in an interview with a host of the producing team.

Ronald teased: “Every year we approach it fresh.

“Should we keep it a book a season? We’ve done that up until now.

“But we’ve talked about splitting books, and we’ve talked about combining them.”

The writer continued: “We want to be free in the writers’ room to pick and choose and do what feels most comfortable that year.”

Will Jamie and Claire reunite for the first time in 1940s Scotland?

It could turn out the image of Jamie is a dream, or that it will end up being the ghost of Jamie travelling through times and dimensions to see his wife again, years after his death.

If it was a ghost, why could Frank see him and not Claire?

Outlander season five will return to STARZ and Amazon Prime Video later this year.
