Outlander season 5: Roger MacKenzie set for tragic fate as Sam Heughan drops teaser

Outlander viewers have grown to love Roger Mackenzie (played by Richard Rankin) since he arrived on the scene in season two. The Starz character has not always had the best audience in the Fraser family, but he has quickly become a mainstay in the Fraser clan. Now, as a crucial member of the community within Fraser’s Ridge, Roger is safe and settled for the first time.

Despite this, Roger has hit a ballad of bad luck a few times over in the series.

Just recently he was found hanged – almost to death – after being caught up in a misunderstanding with the Regulators.

This may not have been his final foray into misfortune, however, as Jamie Fraser star Sam Heughan has now given a cryptic clue to what may be around the corner for the songbird.

In the recent episode of Outlander Jamie found himself on his deathbed after being bitten by a venomous snake.

In the throes of his death, he made Roger promise him that he would track down Stephen Bonnet (Edward Speelers) – Brianna Fraser’s (Sophie Skelton) rapist – and kill him.

While Jamie survived the ordeal, the men had made an agreement to kill the villain anyway and will set off on their quest in due time.

However this revenge task may be the end of Roger’s journey, as teased by Sam in a recent interview.

Speaking to TVLine, Sam explained Jamie is “very practical, and Roger’s not”.

He went on to add: “Roger’s completely impractical but has other skills.”

It is no secret Roger is very much a 20th century man, who is better equipped with books and a guitar than hunting and gathering.

But with this task to exact vengeance standing before him, Roger may find himself in danger going against a cad such as Stephen.

Sam went on: “Jamie probably would wish his daughter had a more capable man in terms of that period [of time].”

He ominously added: “But yeah, he certainly comes into his own, Roger.”

With Roger going up against a well-known villain, he may find himself outmatched and in danger of death.

Will viewers see Roger dying at the hands of Brianna’s rapist?

Meanwhile, fans of the show have been yearning to see the return of a character from season four.

Fans are eager to see the return of Joseph Wemyss (Alec Newman) – Lizzie Wemyss’ (Caitlin O’Ryan) father – after he sold Lizzie to Brianna.
