Outlander season 5, episode 2 promo: What will happen in Between Two Fires?

Season five of Outlander is finally here after the show’s premiere was pushed back by the network. The Diana Gabaldon series picked up in the New World with Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) as they tried to live a quiet life. However, things were anything but easy for the couple with the American Revolutionary War about to break out.

The new series gently took viewers back into the world of Fraser’s Ridge with the wedding of Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) and Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin).

While the ceremony was poignant, there were many things bubbling away under the surface between Roger and Bree as he made comments about returning to the future.

Sadly, Bree was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with horrific flashbacks to her rape but things got worse after Lord John Grey (David Berry) found out Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers) was alive.

Jamie also prepared for battle as Governor Tryon (Tim Downie) reminded him of his oath to the crown and instructed him to hunt down his own godfather Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix).

A short episode synopsis reads: “As Jamie continues to hunt Murtagh with the aid of the zealous Lieutenant Hamilton Knox (Michael D. Xavier), he’s forced to consider whether or not he’s on the right side of history.

“Meanwhile, when a resident of Fraser’s Ridge dies from a preventable ailment – which had been exacerbated by an ill-informed, though well-intentioned, use of folk medicine – Claire considers using modern methods to keep the settlers safe.”

Starz has dropped a promo teasing what’s to come in the next episode.

The trailer starts with an irate Governor Tryon brandishing a sword as he asks: “Where is Murtagh Fitzgibbons?”

The promo cuts to Jamie, who says: “It is a war being waged, we believe in our cause and I believe in mine.”

But there’s also trouble for Claire, who ends up with a dead patient after she fails to save a life.

She says: “I can’t watch someone die like this, knowing that I could have saved his life.” Brianna replies: “Isn’t this playing god?”

Jamie and Claire later come together as she continues to agonise over the death.

Claire tells her husband: “I’m doing everything I can to make this a safer time but it’s not.”

The trailer brings things full-circle as someone asks Murtagh: “Where will your allegiance lie when the time comes to fight?”

“We’ll be ready,” Murtagh tells him, similar to the Fraser family motto: “Je suis press” or “I am ready”.

His words hint things won’t be ending well for Murtagh with the character likely to be getting a tragic demise.

Jamie has already been stalling against finding Murtagh but he knows he’s going to have to action at some point which could result in the death of his godfather.

Outlander airs on Starz on Sundays and on Mondays on Amazon Prime
