A PLANE catering cart caused chaos at Chicago O’Hare Airport after spinning out of control and nearly crashing into a plane.
US president Donald Trump praised the American Airlines ground staff worker who eventually stepped in, ramming the cart with an airport ramp vehicle.
The bizarre scene, which was captured on video, shows the unmanned vehicle spinning wildly as its cargo — including canned beverages — litter the tarmac.
One onlooker at the airport can be heard saying: “Holy crow!”
The video was posted to Twitter by Kevin Klauer, CEO of the American Osteopathic Association.
Another person gasped: “Oh my god!
One bystander asked: “What is going on?”
About halfway through the clip, which has nearly six million views, one of the half-dozen yellow-vested workers on the tarmac darted into action.
The man ran past the rotating vehicle, which moments before narrowly missed the plane, and onto another airport vehicle.
He then drove directly into the catering cart, tipping it over to finally put an end to the unusual event.
His actions drew kudos from those watching — and his employer.
A man commented: “That’s how you do it.”
US president Donald Trump even chimed in tweeting: “Great job, just in time!”
American Airlines said in a statement it appears the cart’s dizzying doughnut-spree was caused by a jammed accelerator.
A spokesperson told Sun Online Travel: “American Airlines is investigating an incident involving a catering truck this afternoon at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the accelerator became stuck and caused the catering cart to lose control.
“No American Airlines team members were injured and the incident resulted in one 10 minute flight delay.
“Safety is our top priority and we are working with our partners to investigate the incident.”
They added: “We appreciate the quick action of our team member who stopped the vehicle.”
It is hardy the strangest thing to happen at an airport.
Travellers have shared the weirdest things they’ve ever spotted such as sushi suitcases and half naked men.
