Stars shone bright at the Academy Awards on Sunday afternoon despite rain drenching the red carpet.
Renee Zellweger and Charlize Theron brought glamour in classic black and white gowns, both opting for off-the-shoulder numbers – with the Judy star in Armani Prive – and the Bombshell actress in Dior Haute Couture.
Joining them on the best dressed list were Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Cynthia Erivo and Penelope Cruz.

The Oscar winner wore a diamond pendant necklace and matching studded earrings and rings; she hit the red carpet in strappy black heels alongside her equally chic mom Gerda.
Scarlett, 35, looked like a sexy siren in her custom pewter Oscar de la Renta gown, complete with fringe embellishments; the silver chainlink fringed across the corset of the gown as well as along her waist, her hips and her back.
Several strands of crystals dangled from her waist for even more sparkle along the shimmering gown, which also had sheer accents along the torso.
Margot made a bold choice with her vintage Chanel sil bustier gown, which had two sheer arm bands and a large brooch; the dress is from the fashion house’s Spring 1994 Haute Couture collection.

The gown, from the Spring 1995 Haute Couture show, had a fitted waist and a voluminous skirt.

Saoirse Ronan, Olivia Colman and Kelly Marie Tran slipped on dresses with purple or blue tones while Lucy Boynton, Beanie Feldstein, Billie Eilish and Lea Seydoux opted for classic black and white hues.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s actress/model girlfriend Camila Morrone exuded sophistication in her Carolina Herrera bustier gown with a Tiffany and Co. necklace, as did Salma Hayek in her custom Gucci white silk georgette draped dress.
Meanwhile, Molly Sims, Brie Larson, Sandra Oh and Rebel Wilson went for statement looks in different shades of gold.

It was a soggy night for the Oscars.
A downpour caused pandemonium at the Oscars as rain leaked onto the carpet. Puddles formed on the plastic sheeting covering the carpet. Crews of workmen in tuxedos went around with long poles to tip the vats of water put of harms way. ‘It’s a mess that’s for sure,’ an Academy spokesman lamented as he surveyed the scene. Photographers and TV cameramen were drenched as rain cascaded down the covering into the media pens.
Someone joked that there was still time for stars to bring umbrellas and raincoats. ‘It’s water torture,’ an Academy spokeswomen said.

JANELLE MONAE’S WARDROBE HICCUP
Janelle Monae suffered a minor wardrobe mishap as she opened up the 92nd Academy Awards with a musical performance on Sunday.
Though the singer/actress was ready to entertain, things got off to a rocky start. After struggling to take off her black jacket, a button on Monae’s shirt popped open to reveal a hint of skin.
She quickly recovered though, buttoning up her blouse, slipping into a red cardigan and sailing into a rendition of the Mr. Roger’s theme song A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood.
After that, Janelle joined forces with Billy Porter to sing an Oscars-inspired version of her track Come Alive (The War Of The Roses).
Onstage, the actress was joined by costumed dancers representing some of the year’s favorite films. There were outfits evoking Hustlers, Midsommar, Us, Joker, JoJo Rabbit, My Name Is Dolemite and more.

MARTIN SCORSESE AND EMINEM
Eminem took to the Oscar stage for a surprise of his Oscar-winning song Lose Yourself, and Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese was not impressed.
The 77-year-old director of The Irishman looked to be falling asleep during Eminem’s performance – and the moment quickly went viral on social media.
One fan, @Thafnine, commented that, ‘Scorsese looks like he regrets everything after Eminem came on stage.
The segment began with a montage of memorable songs from hit movies, before Eminem took to the stage to perform Lose Yourself, which won Best Original Song for 8 Mile in 2003.
The performance was met with surprise from most in attendance at the Dolby Theatre, 17 years after his Oscar win, but that year, he didn’t perform at the ceremony.
Shortly after the performance, Eminem himself took to Twitter to address his performance, and apologize for the ‘delay.’

James Corden and Rebel Wilson poked fun at their disastrous film Cats as they presented the award for best visual effects on Sunday night.
The pair got back into their costumes and tickled the audience with their self-deprecating skit.
‘As cast members of the motion picture Cats, nobody more than us understands the importance of good visual effects,’ they said in unison.
Sam Mendes’ 1917 won the category.
Cats, an adaptation of the popular Broadway musical of the same name, was released in December and drew widespread ridicule from film critics.
The $95 million production flopped at the box office, taking in just $69.7 million at theaters worldwide, according to website Box Office Mojo.

KRISTEN WIIG AND MAYA RUDOLPH
SNL alums Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph tickled audiences with a medley of apparel related songs before presenting the Best Costume Design honor to Little Women’s Jacquelin Durran.
The Bridesmaids castmates stole the show as they mashed up Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Are Made For Walking, Madonna’s Vogue, Sisqo’s The Thong Song, Prince’s U Got The Look and more.
Their performance was so entertaining, many in the TV audience called for Wiig and Rudolph to host the Oscars, which has gone without a host for the last two years.
Not everyone was amused, however. Billie Eilish looked utterly perplexed as she watched the comedians’ musical bit.

Billie Eilish performed an emotional rendition of The Beatles’ Yesterday for the evening’s In Memoriam tribute.
The Bad Guy artist struck a somber tone with her cover. As she belted out the lyrics, brother Finneas O’Connell backed her on the piano.
The segment started by honoring the late Kobe Bryant.
Other greats like Doris Day, Rutger Hauer, Terry Jones, Rip Torn, John Witherspoon, Agnes Varda, Peter Fonda, John Singleton and Kirk Douglas were also included.
