Oscar-winning producer of Spotlight dies aged 64 after a battle with cancer

Steve Golin died in Los Angeles of Sunday night following a lengthy battle with the disease

The Oscar-winning producer of Spotlight has died aged 64 after battling cancer. 

Steve Golin died in Los Angeles oo Sunday night, his publicist said. 

The father-of-two was diagnosed with the rare form of bone cancer more than 10 years ago and had to have his left shoulder blade removed, according to the Hollywood Reporter

His publicist did not reveal his exact cause of death.  

He only made a brief appearance at the 2018 Toronto Film Festival despite the screening of two of his high profile films: Boy Erased and Outlaw King.   

Golin, a revered film and TV producer, won the Oscar for best picture in 2016 for Spotlight starring Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams.

He also produced The Revenant in 2015 with Leonardo DiCaprio and Eternal Sunshine Of the Spotless Mind in 2004 with Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet.

Golin also worked extensively in television and most recently was an executive producer on the latest season of HBO’s True Detective. 

He also took home the 2016 Golden Globe for best TV drama for Mr. Robot and produced the likes of the Quarry, The Alienist and 13 Reasons Why. 

He founded the entertainment company Anonymous Content in 1999, which was focused on management and production. 

Emma Stone, Samuel L. Jackson and Alfonso Cuaron are on the client list for the company. 

Prior to that, Golin had founded Propaganda Films – a global company that produced music videos. 

Golin is survived by his son Ari and daughter Anna.
