Daddy (played by Vicci Martinez) is one of the casualties of Orange Is the New Black season seven, which is streaming on Netflix now. Orange Is The New Black series seven sees Daddy die in the first episode and Dayanara Diaz (Dascha Polanco) later reveals she might have something to do with it. Did Daya kill Daddy in Orange is the New Black?

At first, we presume that Daddy has died as a result of an overdose, possibly as a result of trying to hide the drugs during a search.
In Orange Is the New Black season seven, episode two, Daya admits to killing Daddy to her mother Aleida Diaz (Elizabeth Rodriguez).
Aleida says to her daughter: “You cannot blame yourself for this,” and Daya replies: “Yes, I can.”
“You didn’t make her take those drugs, Daya,” Aleida responds but Daya is silent, revealing that she did in fact give her substance that killed her.
Daya explains: “Look, I just wanted to teach her a lesson.
“I wanted her to stop cheating. I didn’t think she was gonna f****** die.”
Daya then revealed exactly what drugs she gave Daddy when she said: “Barb just freaked out when she took it.”
This is a reference to an event in the previous series of OITNB when Barb Denning (Mackenzie Phillips) took a bad batch of the drug known as ‘bath salts’.
In a later episode of Orange Is the New Black season seven, it is revealed that Daya still has the tainted bath salts.
At her lowest point following her life sentence, Tasha ‘Taystee’ Jefferson (Danielle Brooks) tries to buy the bath salts from Daya as a way of committing suicide.
Daddy’s death also has wider repercussions for the series, both for Daya and the prison more generally.
With Daddy dead, Daya takes her place as a drug kingpin in the hospital, completing her journey in prison across the series from relative innocent to murderer.
This also eventually turns Daya against her mother as they become rival drug pushers in the prison.
Daddy’s death leads to Tamika Ward (Susan Heyward) being made warden of Litchfield Max.
Wanting to avoid the PR nightmare that would come from the third inmate death, Linda Ferguson (Beth Dover) fires Natalie Figueroa (Alysia Reiner) and puts the relatively inexperienced Tamika in her place.
