Oprah Winfrey slammed fake reports she got arrested for sex trafficking.
The billionaire took to Twitter to set the record straight and claimed she was simply self-distancing.
‘Just got a phone call that my name is trending,’ the 66-year-old tweeted. ‘And being trolled for some awful FAKE thing. It’s NOT TRUE.
‘Haven’t been raided, or arrested. Just sanitizing and self distancing with the rest of the world. Stay safe everybody.’
Her dismissal comes after rumours began circulating on the internet claiming the star’s estate had been raided and arrested for alleged sex trafficking.
According to the popular post, rapist Harvey Weinstein had agreed to give testimonies against Oprah, Tom Hanks, Joe Biden, Ellen DeGeneres, Steven Spielberg and John Travolta in exchange for a shorter sentence.
Before she debunked the salacious rumours, her name and ‘Oprah did what’ began trending worldwide.
Andy Lassner, who works with Ellen, one of the celebs named in the fake report, commented on the rumours about Oprah.
‘The staggering amount of people believing a 100% fake story about Oprah doesn’t make me feel good about the chances of society continuing,’ Andy said.
The Daily Mail and CNN reported that the story had been started by the far-right group QAnon, who are known for spreading wild conspiracy theories.
