Onward trailer: Avengers Endgame's Chris Pratt and Tom Holland star in Pixar fantasy WATCH

Next month Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 4 is released, marking yet another sequel for the House of Mouse’s 3D animation studio. No doubt it will be a treat, but wonderfully a totally original story is arriving from Pixar next year in Onward. Avengers Endgame stars Pratt and Holland play teenage elf brothers in a fantasy world. However, the only catch is it’s not medieval as Onward has a modern setting, one which seems to have lost its literal magic.

The colourful animation looks reminiscent of Matt Groening’s Disenchanted Netflix series, which took a comedy-take on the Tolkienian fantasy genre.

The full synopsis reads: “The film is set in a suburban fantasy world where humans do not exist, instead populated with elves, trolls, mermaids, centaurs, fauns, satyrs, gnomes, and sprites, where unicorns are as common as rodents.

“Two teenage elf brothers, Barley and Ian, embark on a quest to discover if there is still magic in the world in order to spend one day with their father, who died when they were too young to remember him.”

Pratt took to Instagram to express his excitement at being in the new movie.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star wrote: “@tomholland2013 and I play brothers in the movie.

“So I guess you could say Starlord and Spider-Man got their own spin-off!

“But for real tho this has nothing to do with super heroes. I know you know that.

“Tom is the best, I love him like a little brother. He is so awesome. This movie is going to be your new favorite movie.”

Meanwhile, Pratt is set to return for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which may have had a plot leak.

According to reliable anonymous leak Twitter account Roger Wardell: “Rocket’s creator is the High Evolutionary, Drax is in for a big surprise when he discovers his daughter is alive.

“Rocket also gets a love interest in the form of Lylla.

Nebula and Star-Lord will grow into closer friends.”

Onward hits cinemas in March 2020.
