Only ONE Liverpool player makes the Champions League Team of the Season based on stats

Liverpool secured their sixth European title with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on Saturday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were below their best in the showpiece final but put in some scintillating displays on their way through the competition.

There was also an impressive away win against Bayern Munich before Jurgen Klopp’s men comfortably saw off FC Porto 6-1 on aggregate.

However, only one Liverpool player consistently impressed enough to make WhoScored.com’s Champions League Team of the Tournament based on statistics.

Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold averaged a 7.2 match rating during Liverpool’s run through the competition, according to the website’s complex collection of detailed statistics.

This saw him surprisingly outperform team-mates Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah – with all three out-scored by other players around Europe.

Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was superb between the posts, despite the Italian giants being knocked in the group stage, picking up a rating of 7.4.

Meanwhile, Matthijs de Ligt (7.2) and fellow ajax star Hakim Ziyech (7.7) shone in their respective positions on their way to the semi-finals.

Manchester City ace Raheem Sterling makes the cut on the left wing while Barca duo Jordi Alba and Messi are also included.

Messi finished the tournament as top scorer with 12 goals and has been awarded the highest overall average rating of 8.8 for his exploits.

Elsewhere, there are representatives from Bayern Munich, CSKA Moscow and Roma but no Tottenham players have got the nod despite Spurs reaching the final.
