One of these £5.99 mascaras sells every two seconds… and it's been the best-selling lash lengthener for 47 years

We know we spend a *lot* of time telling you about the latest amazing, lash-lengthening miracle mascaras that you absolutely must try. But there’s one purse-friendly classic that has pretty much stayed on our radar since our teenage days.

The £5.99 Maybelline Great Lash Mascara is so darn popular that a tube of this cult pink and green lidded mascara is sold every two seconds. YES, you heard that right.

If like us, this was one of the very first mascaras you tried, you’ll be pleased to know it actually doesn’t get that much better (and we know, we’ve tried an awful lot of them).

This purse-friendly essential has become a makeup bag staple for women all around the world because one slick of this wand and you’ll see it has a no-clump formula which pretty much gives the illusion of double lash thickness. It’s also ideal for anyone with sensitive eyes being hypoallergenic.

Beauty buffs claim that this mascara works just as well, and better, than some of its much more spenny competitors and, if fact, it’s been the best-selling mascara in the United States for the last 47 years – woah.

As legend has it, it was first developed by a chemist in 1915 called Tom Lyle Williams who noticed his sister, Maybel, was coating her lashes in petroleum jelly and coal dust (yikes!) to make her lashes look fuller. So Tom went about trying to find her an alternative and the first Maybelline Cake Mascara was born. The formula, with time, has developed and the Great Lash is its modern day reincarnation.

We hope this old favourite is going nowhere!
