On your marks, reset, go: your September fitness guide

September calls for a reset. Holiday season wreaked havoc with your gym routine and any headway you were making at Psycle quickly went down the drain after your best friend’s hen do in Ibiza.

The return to work brings a fresh start: a chance to get back in the studio and set new goals. Think of it as New Year 2.0. From the seven-day fitness blast to workshops for honing your technique, this is how to get back to your best for autumn.

Retreat yourself

Sometimes to gain perspective you have to take yourself away from it all. Hotpod Yoga’s three-day October retreat in Barcelona is all about resetting your goals (and sweating out all those G&Ts). Or for something more intense, Ultimate Performance is hosting a training camp in Marbella next month to help turn your training up a gear when you get home. Expect three days of six fitness sessions, seminars and

Q&As on everything from biomechanics and nutrition to sleep and de-stressing. You’ll come back ready for action.

Renowned instructor Kino MacGregor will hold a yoga masterclass at Triyoga

Work it

There’s no point upping the intensity before you’ve honed your technique. Flykick has a kickboxing workshop on Saturday to help you crush it in class and Triyoga is putting on a three-day ashtanga masterclass with world-famous author and instructor Kino MacGregor at the end of the month.Or for something sweatier, it’s hosting a Power Yoga workshop designed to give you a more fitness-based approach to your vinyasa. Don’t expect simple downward dogs and breathing exercises; you can burn up to 400 calories in a session.

Class blast

“Some people need the intensity of the class environment to push them through,” says Kobox founder Shane Collins. Going hard at the start can be just the kickstart you need. Kobox’s Fight Club package offers seven classes in seven days — Collins says it’s like a “factory reset” for your body and advises only to do it a couple of times a year. Or there’s the 12 Round Challenge (12 classes during September) if you want to spread things out a little. The next of the infamous Hell Weeks run by Barry’s Bootcamp (seven classes in seven days) begins at the end of the month, as does Sweat It’s five-session Survivor Week, while Barrecore has a new HIIT barre class called Sweat if you’d rather go easier on the joints.

Get personal

Outsourcing your workout to a PT is the natural solution (if you’re Kim Kardashian) but you also need to be able to afford lunch. Kobox’s new pay-as-you-go gym in Chelsea has more economical solutions: an e-PT programme that directs you through a four, eight or 12-week workout schedule straight from your phone. “We’ll send you your programme, accompanied by simple video demos of how to perform the exercises,” says Collins. “When you get stuck, our on-site coaches can help guide you through. You’re getting 80 per cent of the benefit of a PT, at 20 per cent of the cost.” Prices start at £20.

lululemon’s “best men’s workout top yet” has anti-stink and moisture-wicking features

New year, new gear

Upgrading your kit can be just the motivation for getting back on treadmill. Apple launches its Series 5 Apple Watch next week, featuring podcast-streaming, period-tracking and a potential camera for gym selfies, while Lululemon is launching its “best men’s workout top yet” next month: an anti-stink, moisture-wicking, seamless top called the Metal Vent Tech 2.0, designed by ambassador and American gridiron star Trey Burton of the Chicago Bears.

Commit to fit

The run-up to Christmas is race time. The Royal Parks has last-minute charity places available for its half-marathon in October — you have six weeks to get in training — while the Movember Foundation’s race series, MoRunning, is putting on various events in the coming months: the London edition, in Greenwich Park, takes place on November 30 and you can choose from 1.5km, 5km or 10km. Perfect if you’re anticipating a place in the marathon next month.
