Day 16 of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is underway with Team GB looking to grab some final medals ahead of tonight’s closing ceremony.
Starting the day, Tigist Assefa, the women’s marathon record holder, will look to win gold for Ethiopia up against 2023 London marathon winner Siifan Hassan who already has two bronze medals at these Games.
In the velodrome, Team GB will bid for more medals, with Jack Carlin contesting the men’s Keirin, while rising star and reigning World Champion Emma Finucane looks to take gold in the women’s sprint.
British duo Kerenza Bryson and Kate French will also be hopeful of a spot on the podium in the women’s modern pentathlon having safely navigated their way through to the final. French is the current defending Olympic champion.
And then there is the closing ceremony, starting at 8pm, a chance for Paris to pull down the curtain on a frenetic and action-packed two weeks in the French capital.
Gold medal hopes for Team GB on final day
Emma Finucane, Jack Carlin and Hamish Turnbull are among those with gold medal hopes his morning in the velodome.
World champion Finucane is up first in semi-final action in the women’s sprints at 10:20am with Carlin and Turnbull’s quarter-final race underway at 10:30am.
Women’s marathon underway
The first event of the final day is under action with Rose Harvey, Clara Evans and Calli Hauger-Thackery the British contingent running the women’s marathon.
