Olly Murs reveals he’s taking a break from social media as he recovers from knee surgery

Olly Murs is taking a break from social media in order to focus on his “recovery” after undergoing “serious knee surgery.”

The singer joked that he was going to struggle to “sit still” for “the next few months” as he told fans he would be spending time “with friends and family.”

The Voice judge shared a photo of himself giving the camera a thumbs up while lying in a hospital bed, with bandages around one leg and a support around the other. A pair of crutches rested beside him.

“Hey guys!! Quick update from me!” he wrote on Twitter I’m putting on a brave face for the gram but this week I’ve been recovering from serious knee surgery, something I’ve needed for sometime.

“I’m not quite sure how I’m going to cope sitting still like this for the next few months…”

Posting  an image of his injured knee, he added: “It’s going to kill me but it’s what’s needed. I’m also going to use this time as an opportunity to take myself off social media for a while – focus on my recovery and spend some time on myself, with friends and family…”

Sharing another photo of himself standing with use of crutches, he thanked followers for “a super 2019” and counted his first win as a coach on The Voice and his “sell out arena tour” among his achievements for the year so far.

“Unreal time!” he wrote. “Loved it… now it’s time for a rest. Enjoy the rest of your year you cheeky lot, don’t miss me too much. I’ll see you all soon.”

Bear Grylls and Dancing on Ice pro Matt Evers were among the famous faces who wished Murs a speedy recovery on Twitter, while Mark Wright and wife Michelle Keegan shared messages of support on Instagram, sending “loadsa love” to the star.

Love Island’s Zara McDermott, who was romantically linked to Murs earlier this year, wrote: “Hope it all went well Ols!! Rest up and enjoy your well deserved break x.”

Murs’ legions of fans shared similar sentiments on Twitter.

“Take care Olly. Hope you heal quick and come back to us fitter and stronger than before,” one follower wrote.

“Wishing you a speedy recovery from surgery,” another added. “Concentrate on getting back to 100 so we can see more of those dance moves.”
