Olivia Colman is set to release a classical album of poetry and music with author Sir Michael Morpurgo.

Not quite content with winning countless acting awards – including an Oscar for The Favourite – the Crown star is turning her hand to something totally new.

In fact, she has teamed up with the War Horse writer and seven members of the Kanneh-Mason family for the new offering, called Carnival.

And fans will be able to hear new poems by Sir Michael – accompanied by French composer Camille Saint-Saens’s Carnival Of The Animals – in the album, which he will present with Olivia.

The scribe, who also penned The Butterly Lion,  raved about working with the family as he opened up about the project.

‘These young people are remarkable, not because they are young, not because they are the seven siblings from one family, but simply because they make magnificent music together, and it is evident they love doing it,’ PA stated he said.

‘Hear them and you know it. See them and you know it.

‘To be making music and stories and poems with people of such talent, lifted our spirits, gave hope and happiness to everyone there, at a time when we all needed it most, left us all inspired to create a better world for all of us after this is over.

‘I hope and believe all of you will feel the same once you have heard it.’

We can’t wait to get our hands on a copy when the album drops in November.

The Kanneh-Masons – who have previously appeared in BBC documentary This House Is Full Of Music – also praised the author and Olivia for the collaboration.

‘As young children, the power of combining music with storytelling is truly magical and we are honoured to have collaborated with Michael Morpurgo, Olivia Colman and the wonderful musicians who joined us to create music that celebrates our connection with the natural world,’ they said in a statement.

‘Together, we want to inspire children and adults to listen more closely, to value our world and all the diversity with.’

Carnival will be released on 6 November, 2020.
