Olivia Colman, 45, was made a CBE for her services to drama today just one week before her debut as the Queen is set to launch on Netflix’s The Crown. However, the Oscar winning actress was unable to meet the monarch who she portrays in the drama series and instead was greeted by another member of the royal family.
The star received the honour under her real name Sarah Sinclair from Princess Anne, 69, at Buckingham Palace.
Olivia declined to speak to reporters outside the ceremony but took the time to greet palace staff as she left.
The British actress exchanged a few words with the Princess Royal and put on a chic display in a checked coat with flared sleeves.
She paired the outfit with black heeled mules and accessorised with a black lace adorned fascinator.

The Crown is coming back to Netflix on November 17 and Olivia will be replacing Claire Foy in the role of Queen Elizabeth II as the storyline continues into the 1960s and 70s.
A recent trailer used to promote the new series shows the monarch contemplating her reign while preparing for her silver jubilee.
In a voiceover, she says: “On days like today, ask yourself in the time I’ve been on the throne what have I actually achieved?”
Olivia recently spoke out about how the role has changed her attitudes towards the monarchy.
“She probably goes crazy up there, she must release in some way, running around naked, screaming and pulling her hair out.”
The actress continued: “The Queen is an extraordinary human being. However you feel about her, she’s been our constant.
“We are all so relaxed about her being there that, one day, when she’s not it’s going to be a shock.”
Olivia also opened up about experiencing an embarrassing moment while meeting Prince William at a charity event in Buckingham Palace.
