Ole Gunnar Solskjaer warned Mauricio Pochettino move is imminent if Man Utd lose

Tottenham icon Chris Waddle believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be under serious pressure to get a result for Manchester United against Sheffield United this weekend with Mauricio Pochettino strongly linked.

Pochettino lost his job at Tottenham this week, with Jose Mourinho taking his place in the hot seat at White Hart Lane.

That has since sparked speculation on where Pochettino could go next as one of the best managers in the world.

He has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but reports have suggested the United board are currently happy with Solskjaer.

That was before the Argentine coach was sacked this week, and Waddle believes defeat against Sheffield United tomorrow could push the board into make a decision.

“Mauricio Pochettino won’t be out of work for long and there’s a game at Bramall Lane this weekend which could be massive for his future,” he told the Racing Post.

“Sheffield United take on Manchester United in a game which has far bigger implications than just the three points.

“United have never made any secret of the fact that they wanted Pochettino and he’s now suddenly available.

“Their problem is that under Solskjaer, United are showing signs of turning a corner.

“Dan James is blossoming, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford are starting to dominate games and Nemanja Matic is fit again.

“Things are looking up for Solskjaer – or they were until Spurs sacked Pochettino.

“Defeat at Sheffield United on Sunday suddenly ratchets up the pressure on Solskjaer, there will be a feeding frenzy from the media and it will be interesting to see if United’s board reacts.

“Not that United would be alone in wanting Pochettino.

“Bayern Munich have to be tempted, he has links with Paris Saint-Germain and obviously there’s the lure of Spain.”

United currently sit one point behind Chris Wilder’s side in the table having lost four of their opening 12 Premier League fixtures.

But the Red Devils haven’t lost to Sheffield United in the league since 1992.
