Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'turning to sports psychologist' to solve Man Utd's poor form

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly set to bring in a sports psychologist to help his side adequately prepare for games against the teams considered weaker than themselves.

United have often struggled in the matches they are expected to win, and have dropped points against the likes of Watford , Aston Villa, Bournemouth , Newcastle and West Ham already this season.

A win against Burnley tonight would see United move within three points of fourth-placed Chelsea in the battle for Champions League qualification, something which the club are desperate to achieve.

And according to the Sun the under-pressure Solskjaer is taking extra measures to try to ensure his team are mentally prepared for every game by instructing his staff to find him a high-quality sports psychologist to work with his squad.

The team’s inconsistency is certainly frustrating for United fans, especially having seen them pick up points against the likes of Liverpool , Manchester City , Leicester and Chelsea, and Solskjaer will be hoping a change in the players’ attitudes will lead to an improvement against the smaller teams on the pitch.

Solskjaer reportedly does not have much time to improve his side’s fortunes, with former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino allegedly in talks with United chiefs over replacing the Norwegian.

Italian media outlet Alfredo Pedulla report United have already opened discussions with Pochettino, who is keen on stepping back into management at Old Trafford.

Much may depend on United getting a result against Burnley, and Solskjaer admitted he is expecting a tough game against Sean Dyche’s side.

“We played them three-and-a-half weeks ago, had to work really hard to get the points, defended really well and every time we play against Sean’s teams we have to earn it,” Solskjaer said.

“We are looking forward to it, we’re at home and we’ve been doing well at home recently so hopefully that can continue.”
