Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Man Utd should have sold Anthony Martial instead of Romelu Lukaku

Jermaine Jenas reckons Manchester United should have sold Anthony Martial this summer not Romelu Lukaku.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to allow Belgian front man Lukaku depart for Inter Milan this summer, along with Alexis Sanchez on loan.

The decision has left the Red Devils short of options up front with the Norwegian only able to pick from Marcus Rashford and teenager Mason Greenwood as their main striker, with Martial injured since August.

And former Tottenham and Newcastle midfielder Jenas thinks that United should have at least considered letting Martial leave – citing the France international’s regular ability to go missing in matches and periods of the season.

Romelu Lukaku left Man Utd this summer while Anthony Martial remained

“Since Martial has been at Manchester United , I would say he has a month and a half, two months a season then he goes absolutely missing,” Jenas told BBC Radio 5Live.

“You’ve got poor Marcus Rashford, who puts himself out there every single week and gives his all. We all know he’s not a goalscoring machine or that goal-scoring comes naturally to him.

Anthony Martial has been injured since late August

“He’s got other attributes to his game that are phenomenal that we see him produce for England on a regular basis.

“He gets all this criticism thrown at him yet you’ve got players like Martial who just goes missing. You talk injuries but it happens every single season at United.

“Why get rid of Lukaku when you’ve got someone like Martial who is doing that every week. Just because he’s a younger player, or he’s more valuable? I’m questioning so many decisions that are being made.”

Martial returned to training last week and could be in contention to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Paul Pogba, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw has also boosted Solskjaer’s ranks for the crunch clash with the table toppers.
