Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reiterated to Ed Woodward his desire to sign Harry Maguire this summer.

The Red Devils have failed with one bid for the 26-year-old so far this summer and reports last week that an £80m agreement has been reached are believed to be premature.

Maguire is keen to move to Old Trafford but will not hand in a transfer request to force through a transfer.

Leicester are under no financial pressure to sell Maguire and are demanding a world record fee for a defender to part with the former Hull man.

Bailly sustained a serious knee injury against Spurs

Solskjaer suggested earlier this week that United’s move for Maguire would go to the wire but Eric Bailly sustained a serious knee injury during the side’s 2-1 win against Spurs in Shanghai on Thursday.

The Ivorian was stretchered off and is likely to miss the start of the season.

Bailly was already fearing for his future at Old Trafford as exclusively revealed by Metro.co.uk earlier this week and his injury has only increased the urgency for United to sign Maguire.

According to Sky Sports News, Solskjaer has told Woodward to get the deal over the line as a matter of urgency.

Bailly’s injury has raised the possibility that United will meet Leicester’s £80m asking price but there’s just two weeks left of the window to get the transfer over the line.

Ed Woodward opted to stay in the UK rather than attending the China leg of the club’s tour as he wanted to focus on the remainder of the transfer window.
