Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed he copied Liverpool’s tactics in the Champions League final for Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with the Reds on Sunday.

United halted Liverpool’s 17-game winning streak at Old Trafford, frustrating the Premier League leaders with a 3-5-2 system.

Jurgen Klopp hit out at United’s game plan after the draw, but Solskjaer insisted he had taken a leaf out of the German’s book for the game.

‘People are obsessed with passing the ball but just spinning them down the sides and turning them,’ Solskjaer said.

‘It creates a tempo in the stadium and the opposition don’t like it.

‘We always used to play like that early on, get the ball forward and turn teams and it gives you a foothold in the game to play football.’

‘Liverpool won the Champions League final with a hook in behind in the first 40 seconds,’ he added.

‘You have to be unpredictable and I think we have been like that today.’

Klopp was unimpressed with the VAR decisions and United’s playing style after the game.

Adam Lallana came off the bench to rescue a point for Liverpool after a laboured performance, but Klopp hit out at Solskjaer and United for how they chose to play.

‘When I’ve been in England, Man United have pretty much set up like this,’ said the Liverpool manager.

‘Everyone built it up [the game] like a mountain, but one team set out to defend and one team made the game.

‘We didn’t lose anything, it’s just a point. Let’s carry on.’
