Ole Gunnar Solskjaer outlines demand to Man Utd players ahead of Newcastle clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told his Manchester United players that they must “earn the right” to play against Newcastle.

The Red Devils host the Magpies looking to make up for several dropped points recently.

West Brom held United to a draw last weekend, although Solskjaer’s side remain well poised to finish in the top four.

Newcastle are in a poor run of form though as they seek to create some daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.

Solskjaer is in no doubt about his side’s quality this afternoon, but insists they must do the hard yards first in order to take advantage.

“Every game in the Premier League is difficult. You’ve got to earn the right,” he told the club’s official website.

“You’ve got to do it by your quality but first of all the attitude. Run more than them, want it more than them and we’ve got players who have got the quality, so hopefully we can take the chances.”

United warmed up for the clash in the best possible way with a comprehensive win in midweek.

They stuck four past Real Sociedad in the Europa League as they made use of their devastating pace in attack.

Solskjaer claims it was ideal game given the space afforded to them in the final third.

United’s attack has been the strongest asset under the Norwegian and he is confident about their ability to make best use of it.

He added: “Yeah, Thursday night was perfect for us. We gave minutes to the ones that needed minutes, we got good confidence from the performance.

“The forwards scored goals – Dan (James), Marcus (Rashford), Bruno (Fernandes) scored two goals.

“I think we’ve found a way of playing when the spaces are there for us. I think we were good at finding the spaces. When they give you the space in behind, why not take it?”
