Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called for Ed Woodward and the Manchester United board to get transfers done quickly, to avoid being caught short as was the case in the summer transfer window.

Solskjaer was left light in attack after the late departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, and has had to contend with injuries to both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial this season.

Harry Maguire, the centre-back signed from Leicester in an £80million deal, arrived just six days before the start of this season, leaving Solskjaer with limited time to get him up to speed before the opener against Chelsea.

The under-pressure Manchester United is determined for that not to happen again and wants his squad virtually settled by July ahead of the 2020/21 season.

‘We do have a clear picture of what the squad is going to look like in June, July,’ said Solskjaer.

‘Hopefully, you get as much done as soon as possible. With Harry coming in, Romelu going out, it was late. We do have a plan now.’

Manchester United will welcome Solskjaer’s predecessor back to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, with Jose Mourinho bringing his Tottenham Hotspur side back to Old Trafford.

Asked whether the Old Trafford faithful are likely to give Mourinho a good reception, Solskjaer replied: ‘A very good reception.

‘That’s just a testament to this club and these supporters, remember two and a half years, won trophies, ‘I’m 100 per cent sure our fans, staff and club will welcome him.’
