Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have to sell before he can buy again this summer following the club’s move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Crystal Palace defender is expected to move to Old Trafford in a deal worth £55million, becoming United’s second signing of the summer following Daniel James’ arrival.
The Welshman’s move cost United £18m and, combined with Wan-Bissaka’s deal, takes the club’s spending to £73m this summer.
Solskjaer wants to make further additions to the squad but ESPN claim he’s been given just £100m to spend this summer by the United board.
That would leave the Norwegian coach with just £27m left to spend and that’s unlikely to be enough to address problems at centre-back or central midfield.
Romelu Lukaku is expected to leave the club this summer and is keen on a move to Inter Milan.
However, the Serie A giants are struggling to meet United’s £70m valuation of the player.
Until the Belgian departs, Solskjaer’s next move in the market may be delayed as the club wait for funds to be reallocated from Lukaku’s move.
Lukaku has hinted at a departure by insisting he expects a ‘busy summer’ and he pointedly referred to Inter boss Antonio Conte as the ‘best manager in the world’.
Solskjaer could free up extra funds by selling Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford but United have found buyers hard to come by given they’d have to take on the forward’s £400,000-a-week wages.
Matteo Darmian is expected to leave the club with Valencia and Juventus both interested.
