Ole Gunnar Solskjaer identifies one man he wants to build his Man Utd defence around

The Norwegian knows he is fighting a difficult battle in the club’s attempts to sign the England international.

Manchester United have been tracking Maguire since last summer, when Jose Mourinho made an approach to sign him after the World Cup.

Yet the centre-back’s value seems to just carry on increasing with every Premier League and England match that goes by.

That’s seen Leicester demand in excess of £90million from United to seal the signing.

Leicester chiefs rejected an opening offer of £75m from the Red Devils last week.

According to the Evening Standard, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be desperate to build his defence around Maguire.

But those plans might not come to fruition before next month’s deadline.

United’s defence has been the priority in this summer’s transfer market, yet they’re yet to make the breakthrough in their hopes of signing the 26-year-old.

Leicester are in a very strong position given that he only signed a new long-term deal at the start of last season.

Cheaper alternatives have been identified, including West Ham’s Issa Diop.

He will only be perused should United give up entirely in the race for the former Hull man.

Manchester City remain interested as they look to replace Vincent Kompany, but they are yet to table any offers.
