Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Scott McTominay for helping Manchester United ‘settle’ against Barcelona at Old Trafford.

United lost the game 1-0 and went behind inside the first 15 minutes when Luke Shaw deflected Luis Suarez’s header into his own net.

Barcelona dropped their intensity after their opener and United were able to come back into the game and ensure the visitors did not get a second away goal.

Solskjaer believes his side are in a positive position going into the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final, and credited McTominay with turning the game around for United.

‘Scott McTominay was fantastic,’ he said. ‘Every time he plays for us he is improving.

‘He’s a great athlete, wins his challenges and quick on his feet. He started settling us to be fair [after United went behind].’

‘We played a good team,’ Solskjaer continued.

‘We know you have to defend a lot without the ball and you might be tired when you get the chance yourself.

‘We go there with one thing in my mind, we have to score.’

United must now score in the Nou Camp on 16 April, but will be confident after spectacularly dumping Paris Saint-Germain out of the competition in their last away game in Europe.
