Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Axel Tuanzebe for his performance against Nicolas Pepe in Manchester United’s draw with Arsenal on Monday evening.

Scott McTominay opened the scoring for United in the first half but Arsenal were able to secure a point via Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal in the 58th minute.

Before the match, Solskjaer was forced to reshuffle his defence as Aaron Wan-Bissaka was ruled out due to illness. Ashley Young replaced the 21-year-old at right-back while Tuanzebe was played on the opposite flank.

And despite playing in an unfamiliar position, Tuanzebe impressed and was able to keep Pepe, a £72 million summer signing, quiet for the majority of the match.

‘We can see Axel will be a top, top player,’ Solskjaer said after the game.

‘I think that showed by him playing well against Pepe.

‘I think Pepe is a threat and Axel did really well.

‘We’ve had a few injuries and illnesses, so there was a decision when Aaron wasn’t fit to play.’
