Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave his players a severe dressing down after their disappointing Champions League defeat at the hands of Barcelona.

The Red Devils made a bright start at Camp Nou as they looked to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit, but were effectively out of the tie after two quick-fire goals in four minutes from Lionel Messi, with Philippe Coutinho adding a third in the second half.

According to The Sun, Solskjaer was fuming with his players after the game and gave them a hairdryer treatment that old boss Sir Alex Ferguson would have been proud of.

It is claimed that, after initially sitting in silence with his head in his hands in the dressing room, Solskjaer finally stood up and addressed the squad.

He told the players that they had let United down and accused some of not giving 100%, which has led to their recent downturn in form.

He also stressed the importance of beating Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, even going as far as to say that defeat would all but end their hopes of playing Champions League football next season.

The Red Devils, who are currently sat in sixth place in the table, need to lick their wounds quickly after their defeat to Barca, with a testing run of games to come.

After facing Everton at the weekend, Solskjaer then hosts Premier League title contenders Manchester City at Old Trafford before Chelsea visit just a few days later.

Despite a brilliant start to his reign in charge of the club, Solskjaer is now facing the prospect of failing to win any silverware and finishing outside the top four, though he is still expected to be backed heavily in the summer transfer window.
