Mario Mandzukic and Edin Dzeko are amongst those who have been linked to the club in recent months, but since Haaland’s emergence onto the scene such speculation has died down.
Haaland, 19, has hammered in 28 goals this season in all competitions, putting several European giants on alert.
Red Bull Salzburg already seemed resigned to losing him and club chiefs have regularly claimed they just want the best for their players, even if that means they leave the Austrian champions.
But former Arsenal and England defender Matthew Upson has questioned whether the young striker is what United need at the moment, given that they perhaps lack some experience in the final third.
“He’s physical, he’s different to what they’ve got,” Upson said on The Debate.
