Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms double injury boost as Man Utd head to Spanish training camp

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Scott McTominay and Axel Tuanzebe are closing on Manchester United returns after revealing the pair will join the club’s Spanish training camp.

But new signing Odion Ighalo will not join them.

United fly out to spend their winter break doing warm weather training in Marbella on Saturday.

And both McTominay and Tuanzebe, neither of whom has featured for the Red Devils since December, have both been included in the travelling party.

According to Solskjaer, Scotland international McTominay is well ahead of schedule as he closes in on a first-team return.

“Scotty has done better in his recovery than we thought, so we will take him with us,” Solskjaer told MUTV.

“Hopefully he can join in the training sessions and Axel as well, he’ll join in, so that’s two positives and it’s a good chance for them to use this time with the players.

United are next in action in the Premier League on February 17, when they face top four rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Axel Tuanzebe is also closing on a return

Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford are both still missing due to injury, while third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant is staying in England to undergo an operation.

“Marcus and Paul are not ready yet to join in the training,” the added Solskjaer.

“Lee Grant unfortunately has had an injury, so he will require surgery, so he will be out for two or three months, so hopefully he’ll get back before the end of the season.”

Another who misses out is new signing Ighalo.

The Deadline Day signing will not travel due to potential issues with UK Immigration – owing to the Coronavirus – following his arrival from China.

“Odion will stay in Manchester, because he arrived from China in the last 14 days,“ said Ole.

”Because of the situation in China, we’re not sure if he’d be allowed back into England if he leaves the country again, so he’s staying here working with a personal coach, individual programme and his family then can settle in England as well. That’s a plus.

“Of course he might have liked to have come with the players and got to know them, but the risk [of potential border restrictions tightening], we don’t want to take that.”
