Oil worker airlifted from North Sea with Covid-19

North Sea operator Hurricane Energy today said a worker on one of its facilities has tested positive for Covid-19.

The crew member on the Aoka Mizu floating production storage and offloading vessel at its flagship Lancaster field fell ill earlier this week and was evacuated to the mainland by a HM Coastguard helicopter.

Hurricane said it was supporting the operator of the Aoka Mizu, Bluewater, with its response to the issue but said production operations at Lancaster in the West of Shetland area had not been affected.

“Bluewater is working within the guidelines provided by NHS Scotland, Health Protection Scotland, and Oil and Gas UK in determining the next steps,” it said.

It is thought the Lancaster field could hold more than 500 million barrels of oil.
