Official reports on the car crash that left Kevin Hart in hospital have now been filed – revealing the crash was caused by the ‘driver’s sudden acceleration’.

Last month, Kevin was left needing emergency surgery on his back after suffering three fractures in his spine when his car veered off the road and into a ditch in Malibu.

Kevin had been in the car with two other people – driver Jared Black and Jared’s fiancee Rebecca Broxterman – when the vintage Plymouth Barracuda veered off the highway and ended up in a gully about 10 feet off the road.

Both Kevin and Jared were taken to hospital after sustaining ‘major back injuries’, but Rebecca did not need medical treatment.

Now, TMZ reports that official reports filed on the incident reveal the crash was caused by the ‘driver’s sudden acceleration’.

The sudden acceleration and loss of control allegedly caused the vehicle to spin and crash.

The report rules out mechanical issues and puts the crash down to ‘driver error’, while stating the three passengers had not been wearing seat belts and the vehicle was without an anti-lock braking system.

The publication adds that there is no bad blood between Kevin and driver Jared, with the Get Hard star telling TMZ through his lawyer: ‘I have nothing but love for Jared and wish him and Rebecca a speedy recovery.’

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Kevin’s rep.

The report comes as Kevin recently returned to work, a month after the crash.

It’s said the star is slowly returning to work a couple of hours a day, as he continues extensive rehabilitation from home.

Kevin is currently promoting upcoming movie Jumaji: The Next Level and has been working on the film’s marketing campaign – although he’s ‘nowhere near 100% yet’.

He is believed to have been on set for a couple of hours at a time and is mostly sat down, so not to put any strain on his back for long periods of time.

Kevin underwent surgery to fuse together the fractures in his back and is now embarking on extensive physical therapy as part of his recovery.

The US actor – who has Heaven, 14, and Hendrix, 11, with his ex-wife Torrei Hart and Kenzo, 22 months, with spouse Eniko – had bought his car, involved in the crash, back in July as a 40th birthday gift to himself.
