Odion Ighalo's Man Utd loan contract details ahead of deadline day transfer

Manchester United are closing in on a deadline-beating loan deal for the former Watford forward Odion Ighalo after agreeing the switch with Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

Ighalo – who scored 39 goals in 99 appearances for the Hornets between 2014 and 2017 – is poised to be the man that United turn to amid their shortage of forward players in the wake of a back injury suffered by Marcus Rashford.

Anthony Martial and youngster Mason Greenwood are currently the only forwards fit and available to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but after an exhaustive search of short-term targets it now appears that Ighalo will become a United player in the coming hours.

The Mail Online report that the 30-year-old has just under two years left on his staggering £300,000-a-week deal at Shanghai, with United agreeing to pay his £100,000-a-week for the remainder of this season.

Ighalo will join United soon

There will also be a £4million loan fee, with both clubs set to review the situation at the end of the season as they look towards a permanent deal.

One man who is less than impressed with the move is the former Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock, who says he once tried and failed to sign Ighalo for his most recent club Cardiff City.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Warnock said: “His salary was over six figures a week, £100,000, something like that. His agent tells you one thing, then the other.

“They want young players. Why didn’t they go for Danny Ings? He’s someone similar to Marcus Rashford. It’s desperation.”
