Oasis fans can do a live Q&A with Alan McGee at this Scots venue tonight

Oasis fans have the chance to quiz Scots music mogul Alan McGee at a live Q&A session in Paisley tonight.

The legendary record label boss – who famously discovered the Britpop icons at a Glasgow gig – will appear at Rocknrolla’s in the town for an ‘Evening With’ event.

The outspoken supremo will be on hand to chat about his role in the music industry – and what it was like to launch some of the UK’s best loved bands.

And after the talking is done, the Creation Records founder will be spinning the decks on some of his favourite tunes for a special live DJ set.

Born in East Kilbride in the early 60s, McGee has worked with a host of big names over the past 30 years, including My Bloody Valentine,Teenage Fanclub, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Primal Scream.

But it was his involvement with Oasis that changed the face of rock history forever, after he came across them at Glasgow gig venue King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut back in 1993.

Alan was in the audience when brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs, Paul ‘Guigsy’ McGuigan and Tony McCarroll stepped onto the stage for a support slot and blew him away.

He’s said in the past that he knew instantly at that point that he needed to add the group to his label.

He recently told podcaster Helen Wood that while speaking with sound engineer Mark Coyle, he said: “I said ‘oh, who’s the manager?’ ‘They don’t have a manager’. I said, ‘who’s the leader of the band? He went, ‘Noel’.

“Ten minutes later, Noel comes over with a cassette and says, ‘who are you?’ I said, ‘Alan for Creation Record’s. I said, ‘I loved it, do you want a deal?’

“And then four or five days later, I sent some train tickets up to them in Manchester, they came down, where we shook again. And that was it.”

An Evening With Alan McGee takes place at Rocknrolla’s, Wellmeadow Street, tonight (Friday, February 28) from 7pm.
