CAREERS advice stating nurses do little more than help doctors by taking urine samples has been pulled after an outcry.
The job description appeared on the website of the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service to help students choose courses.

It said: “Nurses look after people when they are sick or injured.
“You’ll provide support to doctors and other medical staff, take blood and urine samples, and in some cases, you may carry out minor surgical procedures.”
It is being hastily rewritten after nurses labelled it outdated, misleading and belittling. One, Dianne Birch, said: “And in between all that I found time to make the doctor a nice cup of tea.”
The Government is spending millions of pounds trying to fill 43,000 nursing vacancies in England.

But nurses say the Ucas description should better reflect the complex care they offer.
Andrea Sutcliffe, of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, told Nursing Standard: “Nurses play a vital role in leading, coordinating and providing autonomous care.”
Ucas apologised, saying: “It’s clear our role profile didn’t reflect the amazing work nurses do each day.”
Squeeze on toast
STAFF at NHS hospitals have stopped making toast for patients over health and safety fears, according to Bake Off judge Prue Leith.
She claimed 40 per cent of hospitals no longer serve toast as staff fear they will “burn the hospital down”.
But she said that was “an excuse not to do it”.
She is assisting with a government review of hospital food and found the biggest complaint is about toast.
She said: “There is no toast or the toast is like pipe lagging, or cold.”
