An activist from the left-wing Corbynista group is calling for protests against the 93-year-old Queen, who this week granted Boris Johnson permission to prorogue Parliament for five weeks. Momentum activist Michael Chessum, who once dismissed Jeremy Corbyn’s “kinder politics” in favour of “heads on sticks” has organised a series of rallies to disrupt large towns and cities that could involve hundreds of thousands of protesters. He is encouraging “civil disobedience in whatever form it takes” including marching to Buckingham Palace and protesting against the Queen.

But his warning fails to take into account the Queen had no choice but to approve Mr Johnson’s request to suspend Parliament, as her role is procedural and dictated by convention.
Mr Chessum told The Times: “These protests will be unpredictable. We will organise the rallies but then what people do is anybody’s guess.
“There are a lot of passionate and angry people and we cannot just persuade Boris Johnson nicely that what he is doing is wrong.
“We are encouraging civil disobedience, in whatever form that takes. It might mean shutting down bridges, it might mean marching to Buckingham Palace and protesting the Queen.

“We are against Brexit but this protest is uniting people from all over the spectrum — it’s not just Remainers, it’s people who support Brexit but disagree with what Boris Johnson is doing.
“There will be disruption and I’m sorry for that but in the face of what Boris is planning, it will be worth it. The suffragettes burnt down the home of David Lloyd George, the chancellor of the exchequer — I’m sure that was disruptive for him.
“We’re facing a situation where the Prime Minister is attempting to delay a Brexit deal and turn us into a tax haven aligned with Donald Trump. These are huge issues at stake.”
Momentum’s national co-ordinator Laura Parker has also called on the groups activists to block bridges and road as part of the huge demonstrations.

She told The Times: “Real power doesn’t sit with the Queen or in parliament. It’s with us the people — and that’s why we need to take action.
“Our message to Johnson is this: if you steal our democracy, we’ll shut down the streets.
Her words followed a tweet in which she said: “Blocking the traffic. Try to shut down democracy @BorisJohnson and we will shut down the city.
“Extraordinary scenes this evening as people from all political parties and none come to #DefendDemocracy & #StopTheCoup”

The petition against the move from Mr Johnson to suspend Parliament next month has already attracted nearly two million signatures.
Hundreds of thoousands of protesters are expected to attend rallies organised by anti-Brexit group Another Europe is Possible, taking place in Downing Street, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford, Sheffield and York.
Scotland Yard will be implementing “a proportionate policing plan” for the demonstration at Downing Street, which will begin from noon.
In addition to the mass protests, several politicians and celebrities will be making speeches against Mr Johnson’s decision.

MPs will return to Parliament from their summer recess on Tuesday, but are likely to be met with another mass demonstration as anger continues to spread.
Left-wing campaigner Owen Jones has asked supporters to “take to the streets” and “defend democracy”.
He said: “Within four hours thousands of people have taken to the streets, they have shut down Westminster, to stop the coup, to stop the onslaught against our hard won democracy, the rights and freedoms our ancestors fought for with such courage and determination.
“And that sense of optimism, of determination and resilience, is in the air.

“The Government, which only represents the elite, has picked a fight.
“Our unelected Prime Minister is waging war on democracy but they overplayed their hand.
“There is a real sense here, not just anger, but determination: we are not going to stop.”
Hundreds of protests also gathered outside the constituency office of Conservative MP for Cheltenham Alex Chalk, the parliamentary private secretary to former Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab.
