Noughts and Crosses season 2 release date: Will there be another series?

BBC’s Noughts and Crosses is an adaptation of author Malorie Blackman’s young adult novel series of the same name. Set in an alternate world where prejudice is still alive and well, Callum (played by Jack Rowan) and Sephy (Masali Baduza) have a number of obstacles to overcome. Once childhood friends, the teenagers start to fall in love with one another as their friendship blossoms into something more but this could put both of them in danger.

Warning: This article contains spoilers from Noughts and Crosses season one.

Noughts and Crosses looks at the world from a completely different perspective, answering questions about what life would have been like if Africa had colonised Europe and not the other way around.

Callum, a white underclass Nought, is the son of one of Home Secretary Kamal Hadley (Patterson Joseph)’s servants Meggie (Helen Baxendale).

While she had to work at his home, she often brought Callum with her when he was young and him and the Home Secretary’s daughter Sephy used to play together.

But as the years went by, the pair lost touch and it is only when Callum volunteers to help his mum at a party held in the Home Secretary’s home does he meet his childhood friend once more.

As the first episode progressed, it was clear there was a spark between them and in the final moments of the show, the pair kissed on Callum’s rooftop.

The teenagers looked surprised by what had happened but before they could get a chance to speak about it, Sephy had to quickly leave as Callum’s dad Ryan (Ian Hart) was calling for him.

However, it’s probably safe to say this will be the first of many times fans will see the couple together hiding their secret romance from their loved ones.

This will mean the young star-crossed lovers could be in grave danger if anyone did find out how they felt.

Noughts and Crosses is based on a book series written by Malorie Blackman and the first series is focussing on the events of her first book.

However, Blackman has so far written a total of five books all set in the same alternate world.

The author is also currently in the middle of writing her sixth and last book in the series which will be called End Game.

So given the first season is following what happens in the first book, the possible second series could go through the events of the sequel which is called Knife Edge.

At the end of the first episode, Callum’s friend Danny (Charlie Jones) ended up in hospital after he was brutally beaten up by a police officer.

Laying in hospital, Danny gets a visit from friend Jude (Josh Dylan) and key member of the rebellions in the Nought community Jack Dorn (Shaun Dingwall).

But as Jude leaves the room for just a few minutes, Jack smothers Danny with a pillow and kills him but the reasons behind the murder have yet to be made clear.

Noughts and Crosses season 1 continues every Thursday at 9pm on BBC One.
