Taking to Twitter to express how awkward they were feeling about being sat next to their folks, some even complained that there was “too much sex” in the hit show.

“Genuinely didn’t notice how many graphic sex scenes there were in Normal People until I rewatched it with my parents (sic),” one person wrote.

A second person tweeted: “The sex scenes in normal people actually make me feel so uncomfortable (sic),” while a third added: “i continued watching normal people with my family and they just kept having sex on screen i’m braver than the marines (sic).”

The sex scene in tonight’s episode saw Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) engage in BDSM with her horrible boyfriend Jamie, after telling Connell (Paul Mescal) about their rough sex life.

However, some viewers also praised the series for portraying BDSM between young people.

“Well done for BDSM to be included in Normal People making the Sex very serious and strong.#NormalPeople,” one person tweeted.

Another viewer was very impressed with the scene where Marianne discusses her current sex life with her ex-boyfriend, who she’s clearly still in love with.

“I thought episode 7 of #NormalPeople outside the cafe where Marianne talks about her sex life with Jamie, comparing it to her and Connell is one of the best scenes on TV for a long time,” they tweeted.

“So blunt and so comfortable at the same time with one another. Absolutely love it!”

Normal People has certainly caused somewhat of a stir since being adapted from Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel.

The author recently revealed what happens to Marianne and Connell and their love story after the season one finale.

While Sally hasn’t written a sequel, she first wrote about Connell and Marianne in a short story set after they graduated called At the Clinic.
