The creative team behind hit BBC3 TV show Normal People are to adapt another Sally Rooney book for their next TV project.

And this one is also set in Ireland.

Conversations With Friends was Rooney’s debut novel, and released in 2017. It was followed by Normal People, which came out in 2018.

Speaking in an interview, Ed Guiney – a co-producer of this year’s Normal People TV adaptation has also addressed whether a sequel to the wildly popular series will be made, according to Heart.

‘Not in the short term,’ he said. ‘We’ve turned our attention – we’re adapting Conversations with Friends as a television series.’

Note: that’s not a no regarding a Normal People part two.

Rooney’s first novel looks at the complex friendship of Frances and Bobbi, two Trinity College Dublin students.

Which is the university that Normal People’s Marianne and Connell end up at…

Guiney added that the new show would feature ‘the same basic team. Lenny’s [Abrahamson] going to direct it and is across it as an EP [executive producer]. And Alice Birch and all of us at Element [Pictures]. So, in a way, that’s what we’ll be turning our attention to next.

‘But maybe down the line we’ll come back to Connell and Marianne.’

We’re glad to hear it.

Normal People is one of the biggest success stories in modern BBC history.

It was streamed over 21.8 million times within a week of dropping online – beating a record previously held by Killing Eve.
