Norma Michaels dead: King of Queens actress dies aged 95



Television and film star Norma Michaels has died at the age of 95.

A spokesperson confirmed that Michaels died of natural causes at her hold in Palm Springs, California, on January 11.

A prolific character actress, Michaels was best known for her recurring role as Josephine in US sitcom King of Queens opposite Jerry Stiller.

Her breakout role came in The Jack Benny Show in 1964.

She went on to have credits in series including Gilmore Girls, Modern Family, Malcolm in the Middle, Everybody Loves Raymond and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which marked her final television appearance in 2016.


She also had brief roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, ER, 2 Broke Girls, Life in Pieces and Nickelodeon’s iCarly.

Michaels also appeared in films including Easy A and Wedding Crashers. Her final film role came in 2016 indie movie Hello My Name Is Doris, in which she starred as Sally Field’s on-screen mother.

She took a hiatus from acting in the ’80s in order to work as a therapist.

Deadline reports that she is survived by her long-time manager and friend Jasper Cole, his husband Dennis Turone and several cousins.

A memorial service is planned for March.
