Noah Hawley has provided an update on his planned Doctor Doom movie, saying how he hopes to ‘engage’ with Marvel in the coming months.

The future of Hawley’s Doctor Doom movie, first announced at Comic-Con in 2017, was thrown into question following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox earlier this year – with characters from X-Men and the Fantastic Four now up for inclusion in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

The transfer placed the written script of Hawley’s Doctor Doom in limbo, but the writer is keen to discuss the project with Marvel later this year.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Hawley said: ‘I’ve been waiting a bit for the dust to settle. There was a long holding period when 20th [Century Fox] had the script.

‘They liked the script, they wanted to make it, and I wasn’t available in the window that it needed to go in order to be done before the takeover, and therefore we entered a kind of limbo.

‘I’m just letting the dust settle, but I feel somewhere in the next couple of months, I’ll engage in a real conversation to say this is something I feel passionately about and want to make.’

Hawley, however, is uncertain at this stage whether his movie will fit into Marvel’s potential wider plan to introduce the Fantastic Four into the MCU.

‘I have to assume they have a plan in a desk drawer somewhere for the Fantastic Four and a roll out strategy potentially,’ Hawley said.

‘So it may be that my standalone movie doesn’t fit their plan, but it may also be that they like it and they want to go forward. I just don’t have clarity yet.’

Hawley previously revealed how his interpretation on Doctor Doom would be a ‘kind of Cold War, geopolitical movie’, set in the character’s home country of Latveria.

Doctor Doom was adapted to screen in 2005’s Fantastic Four, where Julian McMahon played the villainous scientific genius.

It’s unconfirmed whether Marvel is even planning to attempt a Fantastic Four reboot, but considering how beloved the characters are, the group feels like an essential inclusion to complete Marvel’s on-screen universe.

Hawley is also a trusted name with Marvel properties, having written X-Men TV spin-off Legion which is set to conclude with its third season this year.
