DOWNING Street was today forced to deny that Theresa May has bought a holiday home in Ireland where she intends to retire.
The Prime Minister was said to have snapped up a house in Dunmore East, in the country’s south-east.
Mrs May’s husband Philip has repeatedly visited the fishing village in County Waterford to check out the couple’s new home, the Munster Express said.
But a spokesman for the Prime Minister insisted the claim is “totally untrue”.
The PM has promised to quit later this year once Brexit is delivered.
It’s not known whether she is planning to continue as MP for Maidenhead after she leaves No10.
The question of the Irish border, and the backstop intended to protect it, has been the main sticking point stopping Mrs May from getting her Brexit deal through.
Estate agent Des Purcell confirmed he has sold a home in Dunmore East to someone “with an international reputation”, the Munster Express reported.
The village, a few miles from Waterford, is a traditional fishing community which is now hugely popular with tourists.
The Mays usually spend their holidays walking in Wales or the Alps, but are also keen on spending time next to lakes.
David Cameron also bought a holiday home for his family after stepping down as PM.
Mrs May’s predecessor spent £2million on a luxurious pad near Newquay in Cornwall.
