No Time To Die writer Robert Wade made a sexist joke about Phoebe Waller-Bridge and said she was ‘very witty for a woman’.

The 58-year-old appeared on James Bond Radio to discuss the new film and later made a ‘joke’ about the Fleabag actress.

Speaking on Phoebe and her process of polishing the script, Robert explained: ‘It’s like a relay race. Phoebe did the bit where you get the prize at the end.

‘For a woman, she is very witty.’

The podcast’s host was shocked by the sudden comment, which in turn had Robert insisting: ‘It’s a joke.’

Along with Robert and Neal Purvis, Phoebe was brought in to help with the screenplay and from the trailer alone, we already know she did a great job.

Robert later revealed he was ‘never worried’ about the long-standing debate about the Bond films being misogynistic.

He said: ‘There haven’t been many women involved [before] and, obviously, it’s a good thing for women to be involved.’

Wade was ‘confused’ when the Killing Eve producer was brought in, but he didn’t take it personally.

‘We went to New York to talk to Daniel [Craig] and he was on board for doing something kind of different,’ Robert said.

‘We spent a lot of time thrashing it out. It was slightly experimental and it felt like that’s what we needed to do.

‘I’m not sure we fully pulled it off. But there was a certain amount of nervousness about it.’
