Nish Kumar was booed off stage at a recent charity event.

The comedian was performing a set at the Lord’s Taverners Christmas lunch which descended into chaos following his jokes about a number of topics, one of which was reportedly Brexit.

Footage of the TV star shared on social media shows the crowd jeering as Kumar refuses to leave the stage, referring to former Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow.

He is then approached by the compere who offers to shake his hand before gently bringing his set to a close and moving on to the raffle portion of the night.

Kumar tells the crowd: ‘I’m not going anywhere. Absolutely not. I’m full Bercowing it. Absolutely Bercow. I know you want me to do it but I’m not gonna leave. Absolutely not. Absolutely not.’

The host of the event, wearing a red jacket, makes his way towards him and says: ‘Can I shake your hand sir? Ladies and gentlemen Nish gave his time to come and support this charity today, and I think the very least we can do is say thank you for doing that. Thank you very much Nish, now is the time to draw the raffle.’

As Kumar, who hosts BBC comedy programme The Mash Report, makes his way off stage there is some polite applause from the audience among the boos.

Jon Austin, who shared the clip on Twitter, tweeted: ‘Can tell you how bad he was, being booed after about 2 minutes then refused to leave the stage till they stopped booing.

‘I’ve never seen a comedian die on stage like Nish Kumar, embarrassing.’

Taverners member Mike Fitchett, who was at the event, told Mail Online: ‘The Taverners got it totally wrong. I’ve been going for years and I have never seen anything like it.

‘The man was just not suitable and it wasn’t the place for him to air his views, which were basically a lefty slant on politics and Brexit. It left a very bad taste. He was booed and came off stage early despite threatening to carry on.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Kumar’s representative for comment.
