Three surviving members of rock band Nirvana are reuniting this weekend for a special LA-based performance.

Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, along with guitarist and vocalist Pat Smear, will reunite for a show 26 years after lead singer Kurt Cobain’s death.

Fans will gather to watch them perform at the Heaven gala in The Palladium in Los Angeles on Saturday night (4 January), reports Radio X.

The now Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will be joined by his former bandmates for one night only at the Art of Elysium’s annual event, an organisation founded in 1997 to ‘support individuals in the midst of difficult emotional life challenges like illness, hospitalisation, displacement, confinement, and/or crisis’.

In April 2020, it will be 26 years since Kurt Cobain was found dead at his home in Lake Washington Boulevard, Seattle on 8 April 1994, where it was confirmed he had died three days before on 5 April.

Even though a suicide note was left and Kurt had previously attempted suicide, there has been speculation over the years about whether the Smells Like Teen Spirit singer was murdered.

But last April, 25 years after his death, Kurt’s manager Danny Goldberg told the Independent it was a load of rubbish.

‘It’s ridiculous. He killed himself. I saw him the week beforehand, he was depressed,’ Danny said.

Alongside the legendary rock stars at Saturday’s event, Beck, St Vincent and Grohl’s 13-year-old daughter Violet will all perform.

Fans will also be able to watch Marilyn Manson, Cheap Trick and L7 put on a show.

It’s set to be a big year for the Foo Fighters as they get ready to release their tenth studio album. There’s no clues about it yet apart from their mysterious Instagram post.

This year the band will also celebrate their 25th anniversary.

At Leeds festival last year, Grohl spoke to Radio X’s Sunta Templeton, saying: ‘We have a lot of really big plans for next year.

‘These are the last few shows we doing before we go home to work on all the stuff that’s going to come next year. It’s exciting.’
