Nintendo Switch OLED model – UK release date, price and latest stock update

Need a refresher on the new OLED Model? (Picture: Nintendo)

With it releasing in just over a week, here’s a primer on everything you should know about the Nintendo Switch OLED model.

For what felt like forever, there were frequent rumours that Nintendo was working on a new, more powerful model of the Nintendo Switch, dubbed by the internet as the Switch Pro.

Back in July, there was a lot of chatter that Nintendo was on the cusp of unveiling it. And while it certainly revealed a new Switch model, it wasn’t quite what everyone was expecting.

So, for anyone who may have missed it, or needs a reminder, here’s a rundown of what you need to know about the new Switch OLED model before it releases in October.

What is the Nintendo Switch OLED model?

Basically, it’s a new variant on the original Nintendo Switch model. As the name suggests, the key difference is that it boasts an OLED screen, which is 7 inches as opposed the original’s 6.2 inches and allows for more realistic colours and higher contrast.

It also comes with a wider adjustable stand, onboard speakers with enhanced audio, and the dock has a new wired LAN port to allow for a more stable Internet connection.

Is the Nintendo Switch OLED model more powerful than the original?

No, this is not the fabled Switch Pro described in all the rumours. There’s no 4K visuals or anything like that; it has the exact same specs as the original model so don’t pick one up if you’re expecting it to run games like Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity any better.

How much does the Nintendo Switch OLED model cost in the UK?

It retails at £309.99. Since the original model has recently received a price cut down to £259.99, this makes the OLED Model £50 more expensive.

When does the Nintendo Switch OLED model release?

It launches worldwide, and in the UK, on Friday, October 8.

Will the Nintendo Switch OLED model have any exclusive games?

No, all Nintendo Switch games can be played on every available model. Metroid Dread may be launching on the same day, but you can still play it on the original model or the handheld-only Switch Lite.

Where can I pre-order the Nintendo Switch OLED model in the UK?

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, pre-orders are almost completely sold out. We were able to spot a couple of bundles that come with a game and are priced at £349.99, but you’ll want to act fast.
