Nintendo Switch 2 reveal is this month suggest insiders as confusion mounts

How close is the Switch 2 reveal? (Nintendo)

Just as it seemed rumours of a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement this month had been disproven reliable sources have insisted it could still be happening.

On Friday morning everything seemed to have been settled about rumours of a Switch 2 reveal later this month. A reliable source, who that same day had already been proven correct about the PS5 Pro, suggested that Nintendo was merely about to announce a new hardware bundle for the Nintendo Switch OLED Model.

That seemed a very believable explanation for the rumours, especially as even the sources themselves said they weren’t entirely convinced. But now they seem more certain than they did originally and are suggesting that the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal really is happening soon.

Speaking on the VGC podcast, Andy Robinson suggested that he’d heard from between three to five different sources that ‘something’ Switch 2 related is happening this week. However, he qualified this by saying he wasn’t more than 50% sure they were accurate.

In the same podcast, GamesIndustry.biz’s Chris Dring suggested that he’d also heard from multiple sources at Gamescom that the reveal is this month.

Both are veteran, reliable journalists but the fact that Robinson still isn’t fully convinced of the information means it’s impossible to take anything for granted.

He did, however, say that he expects the Switch 2 to launch in April or May, which would make a reveal this year more likely.

As an added complication, publishers often change their mind about these sort of reveal events, changing details or dates at the last minute – so it may be that even Nintendo doesn’t know when the announcement will happen.

Although Nintendo rarely suffers leaks, they are possible when it comes to Switch 2 as many developers from around the world, that are already working on games for it, will already know roughly when it’s due for launch.

Not only that but if other publishers are involved in the reveal, in order to highlight the console’s third party support, then they’d have to be in contact with Nintendo about it, creating the opportunity for leaks.

That said, the earlier rumour about no reveal this month, just a new OLED hardware bundle, does seem more believable, especially given Nintendo’s strong line-up of games this year.

It’s all getting very confusing though and, as ever with anything Nintendo-related, we’ll only know for sure once they make an official announcement.

As inscrutable as ever (Nintendo)
