Nintendo News: Great Pokemon Sword and Shield news before Switch E3 update

Reports this week claim that Pokemon Sword and Shield could have some exciting new features included with its Nintendo Switch release.

Pokemon games continue to prove hugely successful, whatever platform they are released on.

Nintendo Switch is the next to see a major Pocket Monster launch, with Sword and Shield scheduled for release later in 2019.

And new reports out this week suggest that Nintendo could be looking to add some crossover material with another game.

As many fans will already know, Pokemon Go has proven a huge success for developers Niantic and Nintendo.

And a recent data mining report has linked the two company’s with a possible crossover event, featuring both games.

Data miners believe they have found evidence that new app settings will be added to Pokemon Go in the near future.

Code for ”koala_settings” have been found in the latest build in the game, and some believe this might be referencing Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Working on the theory that the Switch project has an internal codename of Koala, it would make sense that Niantic was also gearing up for its release.

Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu! & Let’s Go, Eevee! was codenamed “beluga” so the idea that Koala could reference Sword and Shield isn’t so far fetched.

Let’s Go Pikachu also offers a level of integration with Pokemon Go, something that has no doubt prove useful for Nintendo.

This rumour makes a lot of sense, but there are also a few things to consider before getting your hopes up.

While Let’s Go Pikachu included a level of integration with GO, that’s because the gameplay synced pretty well.

Sword and Shield are supposed to be mainline franchise titles, meaning they should be closer in line with Sun and Moon.

However, that doesn’t mean the two games can’t be linked in another way.

Nintendo could be planning on adding new events into Sword and Shield, which could also be shared with Pokemon Go.

And there’s no reason why certain boosts and rewards couldn’t be unlocked by linking the two games.

Fans will be hoping to find out more during Nintendo’s big E3 showcase, being held next month.

Sword and Shield are expected to be featured as one of the main highlights of the show, which has been roughly sketched out by the company.

The Nintendo Direct E3 2019 live stream will begin at 18.00 CEST on June 11 and will focus entirely on software. This means games, with Nintendo confirming that no new consoles will be unveiled.

Nintendo will be showcasing games scheduled to launch in 2019, meaning Sword and Shield should be the main focus.

After the Direct event, Nintendo Treehouse: Live coverage will begin, giving viewers a more in-depth look into select games, along with commentary by those who know the games best.

People can view the live stream in English at Nintendo of Europe’s E3 2019 website. Additional details about Nintendo Treehouse: Live will be announced at a later date.

Sword and Shield are the latest mainline entries in the Pokemon series and will see the Gen 8 Pokemon appear.

Three starter Pokemon – Sobble, Gookey and Scorbunny – have been revealed with plenty more set to appear in the Galar region. The area that Pokemon Sword and Shield is set in has been inspired by the British countryside, giving it a quaint, homely feel to it.

Recent rumours suggest that Armoured Pokemon could be featured, which would undoubtedly make for an exciting new feature in Pokemon Go. So fans will want to keep an eye for important news for the Nintendo Switch exclusive in the coming weeks.
