Nikon Unveils the Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.8 S Fast Prime Portrait Lens

Nikon has announced the new NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S, a fast prime portrait lens for its full-frame Z Series mirrorless cameras.

“The NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S is a fast aperture lens ideal for all types of portrait photography and videography thanks to its edge-to-edge sharpness and beautiful, natural bokeh,” Nikon says, adding that the “fast f/1.8 constant aperture medium telephoto NIKKOR Z lens benefits from the wider, shallower Nikon Z-mount, producing edge-to-edge sharpness, even wide open.”

Features of the lens include a 9-blade rounded aperture for creamy bokeh, a filter size of 67mm, a minimum focusing distance of 2.62 feet (0.8m), 12 elements in 8 groups, a Nano Crystal Coating that reduces ghosting and flare, a customizable control ring, silent autofocus, and minimal focus breathing.

Here are some official sample photos captured with the lens:

The new NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S will be available in September 2019 with a price tag of $800.
