Nikon Unveils the Nikkor Z 24mm f/1.8 S Mirrorless Lens

Nikon has announced the Nikkor Z 24mm f/1.8 S, a fast wide-angle prime lens for its full-frame mirrorless cameras.

“The 24mm f/1.8 S is optimized for capturing everything from cityscapes to environmental portraits and is built to take advantage of Nikon’s large Z-mount, delivering the ultimate combination of fast, bright and sharp performance in nearly all lighting conditions,” Nikon says.

Equipped with Nikon’s Multi-Focusing System, the lens uses two AF drives working in tandem to achieve fast and accurate autofocus, even at its minimum focusing distance of 9.84 inches (0.25m).

Features and specs of the lens include 12 elements in 10 groups, a maximum magnification of 0.15x, a 9-blade rounded aperture for “beautifully circular bokeh,” a dust- and drip-resistant magnesium alloy design, a Nano Crystal Coat that combats ghosting and flares, four aspherical elements alongside one extra-low dispersion (ED) element to combat aberration, a 72mm filter thread, and a weight of 0.99lbs (450g).

For video shooting, the lens has near-silent autofocus (thanks to its stepping motors), reduced focus breathing, and a customizable control ring.

Here are some official sample photos captured with the lens:

The new Nikkor Z 24mm f/1.8 S will be available in mid to late October 2019 with a price tag of $1,000.
